Product Description

Fiskars Chain-Drive Extendable Tree Pruner and Pole Saw makes it easy to cut high or low with a level of control that traditional pruners can't match. A long, lightweight pole lets you cut high branches without the hassles and dangers of using a ladder, make low cuts without sore knees from kneeling or back strain from bending, and easily reach into dense, prickly shrubs or tight spots. For the reach you need to cut your highest branches, the pole extends up to 16 feet and locks securely with our double locking system. The easy-to-grip sliding handle makes the pruning action smooth and simple. The included 15-inch saw blade with a hooked end makes it easy to remove thicker branches, the fully hardened, precision-ground blade stays sharp, and a low-friction, rust-resistant coating makes every cut smoother.

Designed to help you transform the backyard, Fiskars lawn and gardening tools are equipped with smart technologies and award-winning, ergonomic features that make it easier and more enjoyable to perform your own lawn care. From pruning shears, lawn mowers, weeding tools, and tree cutters, we take a holistic approach to develop garden equipment that reflects hours of immersive study, research, and validation, resulting in gardening supplies that outperform the competition and feel like a natural extension of your body.

Did the job

Did the job
This is the only pole saw I have used, so I can't compare it to any others, but this one did what I needed it to. I spent a couple hours in the yard this afternoon clearing dead branches out of trees (which were pruned a few months ago so there wasn't too much there) and creating a little more clearance around the house. The lopper part (operated by the rope pull) cut everything from crepe myrtles to small branches of hickory, beech, oak, and cedar. I ended up taking the saw blade off because it kept getting caught on live branches and I wasn't using it.There are three locking placements on the pole: shortest (7'), middle (estimate around 12'), and longest (16'). I used it mostly on the middle or longest setting. (I'm 5'10".) It is a bit top-heavy, so using it above your head can get a little unwieldy. I tended to brace it on my stomach or thighs for leverage. I don't have much upper body strength, so sometimes the head of the pole would swing down after I made a cut. I could sort of keep it from falling all the way most of the time, but a couple times it did fall. I knocked it around a good bit, and it still seems in fairly good shape. My biggest issue was when I'd try to cut a branch with the lopper that was too thick and/or too alive; the lopper blade would get stuck in a semi-closed position partially embedded in the branch, and I'd have to lift the pole almost parallel to the ground to try to loosen it. So be mindful of branch thickness, especially on living branches. The lopper piece can only handle so much. I also wish more of the pole had a grippy handle. I rarely if ever was actually holding the pole on the handle portion. Also, the string seemed way too long. I tied a couple knots farther up to make the handle in a better position, but it still seemed variable as to where I needed the handle to be, and most of the time the string was getting tangled up in my legs as I walked around staring up at trees looking for dead limbs. A lot of times I ended up just pulling the string rather than the handle. I was wearing gardening gloves where the entire hand-portion was made out of silicone or rubber with built in grippy texturing, so I had a lot of traction and protection. I'll be pretty sore tomorrow, but I enjoyed it.
